Replacement Buttons: Shank or Sew-Through?
A matching front design does not prove a replacement button will work. Check the back attachment, diameter and thickness against the original button and the garment’s buttonhole.

Look behind the design
Request a rear view and identify a shank or holes through the face. Record the hole count and arrangement if appearance matters. A decorative disk pictured near sewing supplies is not automatically a functional button, so confirm the listing describes a sewable replacement.
Compare the buttonhole
Use a suitable original button as a reference and check how it passes through the hole without stretching the fabric. Equal diameters can still behave differently when thickness or edge shape changes. Do not start by cutting the buttonhole to accommodate an uncertain replacement.
Include the shank height
For a shank button, inspect the projection behind the face and the place where thread passes. This affects the space between button and cloth. Request a side measurement if it matters; there is no single appropriate projection for every fabric or garment construction.
Write a complete request
State diameter, thickness, attachment type, color and quantity, with photographs of both sides of the original. Specify whether you need one replacement or a coordinated set. Metal color does not establish composition or wash suitability; keep the supplier’s material and care information.
