Replacement Shoelaces: Length and Eyelets

Measure a suitable old lace fully laid out, then check eyelet pairs and your threading pattern. Shoe size or hole count alone does not establish the required replacement length.

Use an existing lace

Remove a lace that works and measure it end to end, including its tips, without stretching. If it was already too short or long, record the adjustment needed rather than copying it blindly.

Count pairs clearly

Record the number of eyelet pairs and the gap between the two sides. Shoes with the same number of holes may require different lengths because their fronts or threading patterns differ.

Check thickness and tips

Compare a round or flat lace and the width of its rigid tip with the eyelet. Correct length will not help if the tip cannot pass through the hole.

Specify the order

Write the required length and the number of laces in the pack. Include an eyelet photograph and intended threading pattern; a general sizing table is not a guarantee for every shoe.
