Accessory Bags: Net Weight and Packing Weight
Net contents weight can be calculated by subtracting comparable empty packaging from gross weight. That calculation does not replace the weight and dimensions of the fully prepared shipping parcel.

Name all three figures
Record the closed bag’s gross weight, the weight of equivalent empty packaging if known, and the calculated difference. State the unit for every figure. None is automatically the final shipment weight before the remaining protection and carton are included, and mixed units must not enter the subtraction unchanged.
A subtraction example
An illustrative bag weighing 140 grams with its contents and comparable empty packaging weighing 20 grams gives a calculated net weight of 120 grams. These are educational figures rather than product data or a tariff. Do not replace missing packaging weight with an undisclosed guess and call the result measured.
Check comparability
The packaging should match in type, size, labels and closure for the intended comparison. Use a scale suitable for the amount being measured. Do not open a sealed product merely to obtain an unnecessary net figure, or report decimal precision that the equipment does not support.
Weigh again after preparation
Keep a net figure for inventory or product comparison, then request actual final parcel weight and outside dimensions for shipping. Do not subtract bags and cartons that travel with the goods. A packing comparison needs the same contents and appropriate protection in both options before route charging is applied.
