Align the method first
A small difference may come from tape position or rounding. Identify the unit, endpoints and fabric condition. Do not compare stretched and relaxed measurements, then label the difference a confirmed defect without reviewing how each was taken.
Do not invent a tolerance
If the store publishes a measurement tolerance, read its scope for the selected model. An absent tolerance does not justify a universal acceptable difference, or establish that every small variation proves the wrong item was supplied.
Consider rounding
An illustrative 51.6 cm may be displayed as 52 cm when rounded to the nearest centimetre. This mathematical example is not a store tolerance. If that difference affects your choice, ask for the original figure and measurement method.
Document the question
Send both figures, relevant measurement evidence if available, and why the difference matters. State whether they measure a body or a garment. Ask about the discrepancy before requesting replacement, and do not represent a rounded number as laboratory precision.
