Thread Spools: Compare Length, Not Total Weight

Separate the units

Create fields for stated thread length, net thread weight if available, and total packaged weight. The holder can contribute to the last figure. A heavier spool does not automatically contain more length or provide more usable sewing work than a lighter one.

Keep the specification

Record material, thickness designation and intended use beside length. Two threads with equal stated lengths may not serve the same fabric or machine. Do not replace the project or machine recommendation with a larger metre count, or convert between undefined thickness systems by assumption.

Read a quantity example

An illustrative pack of three spools containing 200 metres each provides 600 stated metres. That calculation is invalid if the listing means 200 metres for the entire pack. The example explains units and does not prescribe how much thread a particular sewing project requires.

Keep shipping separate
