Size Charts: Body or Garment Measurements?

Read the chart definition

A body chart describes the intended wearer; a garment chart measures the clothing itself. Do not compare your chest circumference directly with a flat width, or double a figure that already represents a full circumference.

Understand room for fit

The difference between garment and body measurements may be intentional. Loose and close fits do not use a universal allowance. A stretch label does not establish that every shortfall in size will feel comfortable or work for your use.

Read an example

An illustrative flat width of 52 cm corresponds mathematically to 104 cm around when measured appropriately. That calculation does not decide the suitable body size. The measurement position, store method and model's intended fit must also be understood.

Send the definition too

State whether each number measures the body or garment and whether it is a width or circumference. Include the model chart and a comfortable reference garment. Ask about an undefined chart rather than selecting a size because two numbers happen to match.
