Family in Aleppo and Damascus: Splitting a Shipment

Shipping to the northern governorates (Idlib and Aleppo) costs less than to the central ones (Homs and Hama) or Damascus: a large carton is $20 against $23 and $25. So separate parcels per recipient when the governorates sit in different zones, and combine into one carton when the recipients are in the same zone.

How the table divides governorates

MarkaShip’s Syria prices divide the governorates into three zones: north (Idlib and Aleppo), center (Homs and Hama) and south (Damascus). A medium carton is $15, $17 and $20 and a large carton $20, $23 and $25. Latakia, Tartus, Daraa, Deir ez-Zor and Hasakah are outside these tables, so their price is asked for per shipment.

Example: two large cartons for your family

Send one large carton to Aleppo and another to Damascus and they cost $20 and $25, that is $45. If both went to Damascus they would cost $50, and if both went to Aleppo $40. The gap between the zones is $5 per large carton, so do not change a parcel’s destination for that gap alone if it will cost your relative a trip.

Ship to one place and distribute locally?

You may think of sending everything north because it is cheapest and then moving part to Damascus through a relative. Weigh the published gap ($5 per large carton and $10 per medium one) against the local transport cost that you know, as it is not published here and depends on size and route. If local transport costs more than the gap, direct shipping to each recipient is cheaper and safer.

How to write the orders

Put each recipient in a separate order with their own name, address and phone number, and write the governorate, area and a nearby landmark. If more than one relative lives in the same governorate, it is cheaper to gather their items into one parcel before shipping. Published rates are reference rates excluding customs, and are confirmed per shipment once the contents and destination are known.

Common questions

Is shipping to Aleppo or Damascus cheaper?

Aleppo is cheaper: a large carton is $20 to the north and $25 to Damascus in the published table.

Should I send all parcels to one place?

Only if moving them locally costs less than the published price gap; otherwise direct shipping to each recipient is better.

What is the price to Latakia or Tartus?

It is not in the published table; it is confirmed per shipment once the contents and destination are known.
