Check the hem state
Check whether the trouser hem is finished for wear or left for alteration. The listed length alone does not establish how the bottom edge has been finished.
Separate the allowance
Extra fabric at the bottom may be an alteration allowance rather than the intended wearing length. Do not add an allowance to a measurement that already includes it.
Use a reference pair
Compare the inseam with trousers that fit when worn with the intended shoes. Specify whether your measurement reaches the raw edge or the planned finished fold. An 82 cm measurement to a raw edge differs from 82 cm to a finished hem. Define the endpoint before comparing it with a finished reference pair.
Approve alterations
Confirm the hem state and any alteration terms before work begins. Purchase approval does not itself authorize cutting the fabric or changing the garment length.
